How to Enter Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)
NOTE: It is important to remember that all donors who contribute to DAFs, have already received a tax deduction for their contribution to the fund.
- If the Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) does not already have a contact record, create one. Refer to our guide on How to Manually Add a Contact for step-by-step instructions. The DAF is considered the donor and administrators of the fund can also be named on the account
Example:
2. From within the contact record, you can enter the donation by going to the 'Gift' tab and then clicking the 'Add Gift' button. Follow our guide on How to Manually Add a Gift for detailed steps.
TIPS:
• If you are given the name of the individual donor associated with this gift, you may want to enter the donor’s name in the ‘Reference’ field.
• Additionally, you may use the ‘Gift Source’ field to track this donation as a DAF.
- Once again, if you know the individual name of the donor, it is recommended to 'Soft Credit' the donor who contributed to the DAF.
Tip: You may want to look up 'soft credit' in our Glossary and follow our guide on 'How to Apply a Soft Credit' for instructions on how to do this. In the example below, the Spouse is selected.
