Sending Large Email Lists to Mailchimp (500+ Recipients)
When sending larger email lists from Eleo to Mailchimp, you may notice slight differences in how records are processed. Here’s what to expect.
How Eleo Sends Large Lists
If your list contains more than 500 recipients, Eleo automatically sends the records to Mailchimp in smaller batches behind the scenes.
This helps ensure the list processes successfully through Mailchimp’s API and improves overall delivery success.
There is nothing extra you need to do; this happens automatically.
Why Might My Counts Be Different in Mailchimp?
Mailchimp has its own rules for how contacts are handled:
1. One Email Per Contact
Mailchimp only allows one email address per contact in an audience.
If the same email address appears multiple times in your Eleo list (for example, a donor with multiple gifts), Mailchimp will only send one email to that address.
2. Invalid Email Filtering
Mailchimp automatically filters out email addresses it considers invalid or undeliverable.
Example
- Eleo list shows: 800 emails
-
Mailchimp processes: 700 emails
The difference is typically due to:
- Duplicate email addresses
-
Invalid or rejected email addresses
This is standard Mailchimp functionality and would happen even if you imported the list directly into Mailchimp.
