How to Enter Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)

NOTE: It is important to remember that all donors who contribute to DAFs, have already received a tax deduction for their contribution to the fund.

Step 1: Create the DAF Contact

Step 2: Add the Gift

Step 3: Select “Donor-Advised Fund” as the Gift Source

Step 4: Save the Gift

Step 5: Add the DAF Credit

Step 6: Select the DAF Donor

Step 7: Save

Create the DAF Contact

  1. If the Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) does not already have a contact record, create one. Refer to our guide on How to Manually Add a Contact for step-by-step instructions. The DAF is considered the donor and administrators of the fund can also be named on the account

Example:

Add the Gift

2. From within the contact record, you can enter the donation by going to the 'Gift' tab and then clicking the 'Add Gift' button. Follow our guide on How to Manually Add a Gift for detailed steps.

Select “Donor-Advised Fund” as the Gift Source

  1. Add all of the required information to the gift record:

What will make this gift a Donor-Advised Fund is the Gift Source dropdown. We recently added the gift source 'Donor-Advised Fund'. When this gift source is selected, the Grant Reference # appears as an option when logging this gift.

Save the Gift

  1. Make sure to toggle on Send Thank You, if needed. Then 'Save'.

Add the DAF Credit

  1. Once the gift is saved, scroll to the bottom of the gift record and choose 'Add Soft Credit':

On the next screen, the header will say “Donor-Advised Fund” instead of “Soft Credit.” This happens because you selected “Donor-Advised Fund” as the Gift Source.

Select the DAF Donor

  1. The next step is adding the DAF Donor to the gift. You can choose the contact from the dropdown or add a new contact from this page, if needed.

Save

  1. Once all required information is added, toggle on the Send Thank You if needed then click 'Save'.

Your Donor-Advised Fund has been added to your database! Now when you go back to the original gift record you will see at the bottom of the gift that appropriate credit has been given for this DAF.
